"Our vision is to create inquisitive and passionate problem solvers by teaching the whole child to become positive contributors to our community."
Well, Stout Nation has some big news to share: next year I'll be the new Assistant Principal at an elementary school in a different school district! I'm currently the only music teacher at my current school, so I have the unique opportunity to have a voice in the direction that the music education program heads toward as I leave my Wranglers. I've had some significant inspiration from a principal in the Great Lakes area to involve my students in the selection of their next music teacher. So, I've asked all 670 students to weigh in on the traits and characteristics of what we'd like our next music teacher to be like. I can't possibly imagine a better way for students to be part of a problem solving model and be a positive contributor to our community. From Kinder through 5th, we talked about how important it is to pick out the next music teacher for our little brothers and sisters, and for the babies that we see pushed in strollers on the sidewalks around our school. They truly understood the weight of this decision and shared beautiful (and a few funny) traits with me...my heart was SO happy and proud!
Here's the compilation of their ideas:
My principal asked me to develop a rubric that we could use in interviews that would reflect the requests of the students. Here's the rubric I developed based 100% on student voice:
