"Our vision is to create inquisitive and passionate problem solvers by teaching the whole child to become positive contributors to our community."
This month, I have a reflection on the vision that doesn't necessarily directly relate to students, but it also absolutely relates to students.
I work on a team that represents Elementary Music (that's me), Elementary Art, and Elementary Physical Education. My colleagues--the Golden Girls--are absolutely fabulous and I wouldn't trade them in a heartbeat. If you think about your high school experience and think about all the times you saw the weird art people hang out with the athletes who were also hanging out with the band nerds, you wouldn't even need more than one digit of a finger on one hand...that stuff just never happens. But in the Elementary fine arts and PE/Athletic world, it happens ALL OF THE TIME.
That's why we call ourselves "Specials." Haha! (Not really, but really, but not really).
As part of our vision building in Spring 2016 to prepare for our upcoming school year with our new school vision, each team was tasked to create their team mission. For Arts and Athletics, that was tricky!
Ours says this: "Our mission in Arts and Athletics to provide a safe place that meets a child' developmental potential to experience their world in a unique way."
I'm really happy with the mission that our team created in tandem with the vision of our school, because I feel like the mission ties together and honors each of our disciplines.
A growth piece from what we did to create this mission would be to say it and reflect on it in our team meetings, so maybe that's something we can work on for next year.
