I'll be starting to really lean on this platform (called Canvas) in my 4th and 5th grade classes after Spring Break. I'm hoping that the homeroom teachers will have had a chance to roll out the platform to the students, but if they haven't then I'll do what I love: teach kids how to do stuff. Here's hoping that I can count on my very talented colleagues to pave the way for me to use the platform in the Spring!
Over the last few years, my district has been working toward bringing an online learning platform into our K-12 schools. I am always hesitant to bring a campus/district technology initiative into my room because I don't want to become the technology teacher for the school. If the homeroom teachers haven't had a chance to teach the app or the skill, I feel like it takes a large chunk out of the tiny amount of time I get to spend with my students each week/semester/year.
