We were working on those elusive absolute pitch names in 4th and 5th grade by transferring a song where we had played the game, figured out the solfege, translated to absolute pitch names, and taken to our xylophones and metallophones. My students were working SO HARD and thinking SO MUCH about which notes to play to create the melody of the song that they had swimming around in their ears; I am always proud of them. I looked up from working with a student to see that one of my other kiddos had created an easel out of his dry erase lap board, a pencil, and the bars we removed to make F pentatonic. SO COOL! Other students followed suit, ever-respectful of our delicate instrument components. It was quite the sight to behold!
